PUB WHERE THE SERVICE IS GOLDEN
Is there a story behind your pub's name?
We're the Gold Coast because our service is as good as gold. It's also taken from the country Ghana which was historically known as the Gold Coast. How much is your cheapest pint of lager and glass of wine?
Our cheapest lager is Fosters, which is £3.40. Our house wine is £4.25 for a medium sized glass.
What sort of special evenings do you have at your boozer?
On Friday and Saturday nights we have DJs and on Sunday we have live music – sometimes an English rock band and sometimes a Ghanaian band. We do barbecues in the garden during the summer and special food events throughout the year for things like Mothers' Day and Valentine's Day.
Who is your most loyal regular?
We've got four or five people who come in pretty much every day. I think a lot of the people come back regularly for the service and the food.
Are there any pub legends?
It was before we became the Gold Coast, but when Beckham was sent off in the World Cup they put a dummy of him outside the pub, which caused some attention. Also, we were filmed by the BBC when Ghana played England recently. They came to the pub for the game and interviewed me.
If you could change one thing about your pub what would it be?
In terms of food and service I wouldn't change a thing. But I would like to have more space so we could have more customers and do a bit more. As it is, we are quite limited because of our location and we can't really grow. There is not a lot space for parking in the area.
And who rings the bell for the last orders?
Sometimes me but it depends on which member of staff is on working ...Nana Nti owner of The Gold Coast speaking to The Croydon Advertiser.
